- Abstract: The CIE editor Gustav Herbig was working on an edition of Etruscan inscriptions from Campania at the time of his death in 1925. His papers were long thought to have been lost during the Second World War, but they have recently been rediscovered in Berlin. This article outlines the efforts to publish the Campanian inscriptions in the German CIE project between 1901 and 1941. Illustrations, field-notes and discussions by Herbig on 43 Campanian vase inscriptions are presented, including three where no drawings have previously been published.
