Abstract: The article reexamines the concepts of allotropism and polymorphism, typical of Italian linguistics, in order to identify a more precise boundary line than the one currently used in studies, based on both lexical and morphological elements. In this context, some entries from the TLIO (Tesoro della Lingua Italiana delle Origini) are analyzed, as they are considered particularly suitable for illustrating the topic.
