- Title:
- Unravelling Urban Borderlands : Territorializing Intersectionality
- Publication:
-
Berlin: de Gruyter Oldenbourg, 2025
- Language:
- English
- Information:
- Abstract: This paper proposes territorializing intersectionality to discuss how intersecting oppressions related to ‘race’, gender, class, and territoriality shape peripheral women’s daily lives and resistance practices. To do so, the paper draws on critical ethnographic research conducted with women in São Paulo’s urban peripheries between 2022 and 2023. On the one hand, it emphasizes the feelingthinking-acting approach that enables an analysis of the affective landscapes navigated by the women and the researcher, revealing how emotional and spatial dimensions are integral to experiences of inequality and survival. On the other hand, the paper reflects on ways of collaborating with peripheral women as co-producers of knowledge, proposing an approach to intersectionality that bridges urban studies and feminist theories, particularly in the Global South. One of the conclusions highlights the importance of integrating voices from marginalized communities into the scholarly debate on intersectionality, contributing to a more nuanced understanding of urban dynamics and power relations.
